Another landmark podcast Donald – great job. I’ve got a theory – it doesn’t matter – but I think if you look at the season 4 interview that you used you’ll find two key words used by both Damon and Carlton – “we want” – not this is or you should know that – or even this is the case – just ‘we want’. Sending an MP3 which you can choose to play or not – but I think you’ll find it interesting.

  2. Donald says:

Carlton Cuse: For us, what we don’t want is for the audience to not be invested in the flash-forwards. When you see that, it would be pretty meaningless if they were a changeable reality-

There is a difference here in what they said and what you are implying. Carlton says,”we don’t want” the audience not to be invested. Which means this want is addressing the way they want us to perceive the show, not the want to actually make the show that way…by saying they want us to perceive the show in a certain way that tells me that they will make it so it can be perceived that way.

    Donald,

Did you really just drop in a “that’s what she said” after saying “she was having trouble putting it in.”?

That was AMAZING! It was so funny I spit out my Jack Daniels all over the little kids I was watching.

    Great podcast!

Sweet podcast, Donald. But what’s this about warning us that there’s going to be a skit? Surely you were kidding about people not liking the skits. We love the skits! Part of what makes your show as great as it is, is that the characters actually play a role in your podcast.

  5. Matt Murdick says:

I see your point Donald – I really do. And yes – they DO want us to be invested in the show as it is. The point being – they never directly answer the question about alternate realities – they just say what they want or don’t want. If they were completely discounting the possibility – why not just say “there will be no alternate time realities” or “the future is immutable” – this is speech writers ambiguity working in peak form in my opinion.

    Matt

  6. Donald says:

Well Matt, if they “don’t want” this then why put it in their show? Keep in mind they are the writers…what they want and don’t want is what is and isn’t in the show.

  7. Matt Murdick says:

Ok Donald – sorry to ruffle your feathers. See you at the starting line. :)

Donald! awesome podcasts you make! PLease the beautiful song’s title you use in this season 5 third part review do tell!, please. And thank you. RBB

  9. Donald says:

Could you be more specific? Which Songs?

  10. redbaronblue says:

Sorry, my bad. It’s the song played on this season 5, third part review, between 0:00:01 and 0:01:48 (it picks-up really nice at 0:01:23) It makes me cry; and like Daniel Faraday would say: “I don’t know (why)” RBB
ps. You do amazing work! (and love the skits too) R

  11. Donald says:

Ah yes! That is the Oceanic 815 theme from the season 4 soundtrack, that is an awesome song.

    Hey Donald,

Of course, I’ve been enjoying all of your recent podcasts. Some really good points have been made by you and others.

I’m not sure which one it was, but it was good to get some clarification on the time travel issue. I had found myself mentioning that to friends who watch the show, “they said no time travel, and now look!” I think you’ve cleared this comment up by putting the time framce in a better context.

I believe that in the middle of season 1 they did not know that they’d be incorporating this in the show. I’ve always strongly believed that they had a story with a beginning a middle and an ending, but obviuosly to get from point A to point B, well that’s where they had some flexibility, or as others might say, “they’re just making it up as they go along”.

Finally, they might show something representing alternative time lines, but if they do, I would guess it would be more of a what if type of scenario.

    Keep ‘em coming!
